Turning e85 into a alternative sanitation liquid for COVID-19 Covid-19 alternative sanitization if no other materials are available. Reposting as this seems more and more important as some places are running out of supplies. - E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Easily available at many gas stations. Ethanol is basically a powerful corn based alcohol. Ethanol really likes to attach itself to water but will,if forced, attach itself with gasoline. Ethanol kills corona virus on contact in percentages of 72% or higher. You can separate ethanol from automotive fuel in e85 form simply by adding a quart of water to 2 gallons of e85 and mixing thoroughly. Keep in mind that this is still highly flamable. The ethanol that is suspended in the e85 will absorb the water and separate from the hydrocarbon gasoline molecules. The 15% gasoline will float to the top after being released by the two timing ethanol and can easily be siphoned off the top. If you want to be sure what is ethanol and what is gasoline simply add a couple drops of food coloring to the mixture. The gasoline will reject the dye. The ethanol mixture will turn the proper color. 100% ethanol is illegal technically because it’s basically untaxed corn moonshine. This is not an illegal method as it will be 15% water and 85% ethanol when completely phased and separated. Don’t be stupid and drink this stuff. It will kill you but if you needed to disinfect something important and large this method could be used to produce a large amount of highly concentrated alcohol based disinfectant. Ethanol ,like all alcohol, evaporates very quickly. For some of you guys, you know who you are, this is good info to have in case for some reason your skills are required. Leaving this info early in the American process of dealing with coronavirus at the risk of being laughed at in a few weeks. I hope you all get a good laugh. #worstcasescenario
