Prince Alfred Hotel publican Tom Streater says the prime minister’s defence of the Melbourne pub’s bid to give away free beers to people who got vaccinated at a nearby hub was greatly welcomed. The prime minister said he would look into the matter after the TGA intervened, banning the pub from offering incentives. Mr Streater said it was “great of the PM to jump in and offer his support”. “I hope that he can make those changes, if he can’t we’ll comply with the rules,” he told Sky News. He said the pub’s offer was made so that many more people would get vaccinated, and “if even one in ten of them go and get it done that’s a good outcome”. “The cost of a couple of hundred free pints of beers are a lot less than the cost of being in lockdown for three more months this winter.”
